Global Handwashing Day 2018: Zenith Water Project donates hand washing materials, water treatment plant to school

WorldStage Newsonline— As part of efforts to ensure handwashing is embraced and made a day to day exercise in schools for proper hygiene the Zenith Water Projects Limited, a leading water engineering company has donated hand washing materials and water treatment plant to the Junior Secondary school at Galadimawa community in Abuja.

The Managing Partner, Zenith Water Project, Dr. Nicholas Igwe on Monday disclosed this while celebrating Global Handwashing Day at Junior Secondary school in Galadimawa community Abuja.

The organisation also organized various activities to promote Handwashing lifestyle among the children and Nigeria at large. The students were taught the importance of handwashing and how it contributes to healthiness and wellbeing.

He said: “50% of bacteria comes from hand and children are most vulnerable to this bacteria, adequate hand washing will go a long way in decreasing the mortality rates base.

“Today is Global Handwashing Day, Zenith Water project is a private sector member of Sanitation Water for All (SWA), in America.Today is a special day because it’s part of the SWA vision to make sure we have adequate water sanitation and hygiene in all parts of the world especially in Nigeria.

“We need the workforce, if people die of typhoid, fever, cholera other diseases that can be contaminated without washing their hand adequately or not washing their hand properly due to inadequate water supply, this means the economic development of the country will be a challenge because you need human capital to be able to tackle the challenges.

“We choose to go to the community to the people who are less privileged, those prone to having this kind of disease or infection who do not have adequate training on hand washing and how it could affect their health”, he said.

The Junior Secondary School Principal, Mrs. Ngozi Ozoh, commended Zenith Water Project for choosing the school among others.

She thanked the organisation for the reorientation and assured the management that the students and the school will imbibe the habit of Handwashing.

Head girl of the school, Samuel Favour, said “Zenith Water Project has taught us how we should wash our hand properly, the back of our hand and finger tips to avoid germs.We have been taught that we should wash our hand after shaking hands with people or using the toilets.”
